This is an exciting and varied role within a growing team working within health research in Greater Manchester. By bringing together patients, carers, artists, researchers, scientists and others to share their views, expertise and lived experiences, we deliver creative, innovative, award-winning programmes that enhance health and research. Based in Greater Manchester, we work locally, nationally and internationally to make a real difference. We are part of the NIHR MFT-HRChttps://mft.nhs.uk/2023/11/15/mft-awarded-3m-to-develop-innovative-technology-solutions-to-improve-health-outcomes-in-greater-manchester/, NIHR Manchester Biomedical Research Centre (MBRC)www.manchesterbrc.nihr.ac.ukand Manchester Clinical Research Facility (MCRF)www.research.cmft.nhs.uk/facilities-services/clinical-research-facilityThis role is based at the Nowgen Centre, on the Oxford Road Hospital campus (M13 9WU), with some time spent in City Labs 1.0 and will require occasional meetings at our partner hospital sites across Greater Manchester, e.g. The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust. Currently, the team is working in a hybrid way.
The role involves working strategically, collaboratively and operationally to:
• Embed PPIE within GM-based research culture and practice,
• Meaningfully encourage and support people from all walks of life to express their voice in research, and
• Effectively apply thorough and different ways of doing PPIE.
The post-holder will lead on the development, implementation and monitoring of Vocal’s Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) strategy and workplans. Fifty percent of the role will be dedicated to developing and delivering the PPIE strategy for the NIHR MFT-HRC.The rest of the time the post holder may work across:
• A range of different research topics (eg. cancer research, genomic medicine)
• Teams (eg. senior academic researchers, project managers),
• People (eg. patients, carers, service users) and
• Organisations (including GM research organisations and the community and voluntary sector)
The role will apply Vocal and MFT values and principles across a range of different situations and contexts and take the initiative to develop bespoke approaches, influence others, continually learn from and refine PPIE practice to improve the impact and relevance of research.The postholder with be responsible for building effective relationships and working closely with senior researchers, research staff, health and care staff, service users, communities and the public across Greater Manchester (GM) to advise on and deliver effective PPIE alongside stakeholder engagement.
