Crynodeb

This post is for a junior anaesthetist and predominantly involves working in theatres on our
Ealing site and also sometimes at Northwick Park. It is essential that candidates have a minimum of 6 months’ experience in anaesthesia and have evidence of achieving their Initial Assessment of Competence (IAC) or equivalent.
The post provides excellent training and development opportunities for a career anaesthetist who wishes to gain further experience in a busy northwest London Trust. It could also provide a route to either applying for a Specialist Training number or following an alternative path, such as the CESR route. The department has an excellent reputation for
training, supporting trainees taking FRCA exams and applying for training numbers.

The anaesthetic department has also recently set up its own CESR programme.
The department covers 3 sites – Northwick Park, Ealing and Central Middlesex Hospitals.
Although duties of this post will primarily be based in theatre on the Ealing site (including mostoncalls) there will also be the opportunity to sometimes work on the Northwick Park site, with
opportunities to gain anaesthetic experience across a wider range of surgical specialties (incl ENT, vascular and colorectal). The post-holder will provide resident on-call on a 1:8 basis (with prospective cover for both annual and study leave), predominantly on the Ealing site.

The post holder must:
- Know when to ask for help, whom to ask for help, and not act beyond the level of his/her own competence. There is always an anaesthetic middle grade onsite and also a supervising consultant/duty consultant for guidance and assistance
- Effect detailed hand-over at the end of a duty shift
- In the event of a list cancellation or early finish, be available on site for possible reassignment to other lists.

OBJECTIVES
Ensure familiarity and compliance with:
- Corporate policies and procedures (available for viewing on the Trust intranet)
- Workplace policies and procedures
- Quality improvement measures
- Patient safety initiatives
- Theater efficiency initiatives
Participate in:
- Continuous professional development (CPD)
- Clinical governance
- Critical incident reporting
- Mandatory in-house training
- Teaching
- Assessments appropriate to training/CPD
LOCATION OF DUTIES
Duties will be primarily based on Ealing and Northwick Park sites.
The post holder should be prepared to perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances. Commitments arising in such circumstances are however exceptional and the post holder will not be required to undertake work of this kind for
prolonged periods or on a regular basis. All efforts will be made to ensure that work of this kind does not result in continuous hours of duty which exceed the New Deal continuous hours of duty limits.
