The post holder will work as a member of the Neonatal Operational Delivery Network to support medicines optimisation.

They will facilitate, in line with the recommendations of the Neonatal GIRFT report and the NHS Long Term Plan (2019), the delivery of a service to all neonatal units within the network that supports equitable access to and provision of, highly complex, discipline specific, pharmacy knowledge and skills to new born preterm and term infants and their families.

They will work closely with the Network Director, Professional Leads and Network board to agree a range of priorities and key deliverables that will be embedded within the Network Work Programme.

The post holder will review and assist with implementation of national medicines optimisation recommendations that are published in national reports e.g. GIRFT report

As part of a national ‘expert’ group of Network neonatal pharmacists, the post holder will provide leadership to develop and drive forward recommendations from national reports. They will champion safe and effective medicine and medicine practice in neonates through development of strategy and policy at regional and national level. They will provide leadership for improving medication safety in neonates and associated savings around improved medicines use and be a core member of the London regional neonatal nutrition group.
1. To work collaboratively with all other Network pharmacists to share the strategic and managerial responsibilities.
2. To work as a member of the Neonatal Operational Delivery Network to support medicines optimisation.
3. To facilitate, in line with the recommendations of the Neonatal GIRFT report and the NHS Long Term Plan (2019), the delivery of a service to all neonatal units within the network that supports equitable access to and provision of, highly complex, discipline specific, pharmacy knowledge and skills to new born preterm and term infants and their families.
4. To work closely with the Network Director, Professional Leads and Network board to agree a range of priorities and key deliverables that will be embedded within the Network Action Plan.
5. To review and assist with implementation of national medicines optimisation recommendations that are published in national reports e.g. GIRFT report

7. As individuals and as a group they will champion safe and effective medicine and medicine practice in neonates through development of strategy and policy at regional and national level.
8. To work collaboratively with all other Network pharmacists to share the strategic and managerial responsibilities.
9. Accept referrals from clinical pharmacists across the network, providing expert opinion and consultancy support where appropriate.

Person specification
Experience
Essential criteria• Evidence of extensive recent post registration hospital neonatal pharmacy practice experience at a Band 8b. Ideally including previous experience in a teaching hospital and also including previous experience working in a Neonatal Intensive Care unit (level 3).
• Highly specialist knowledge of drugs used and therapeutic trends within specialist area.
• Evidence of up to date skills and is clinically competent in current role
• Awareness of national guidance e.g. NICE, NHSE and involved in implementation of guidance
• Knowledge of health care systems and NHS changes
• Sound knowledge of key national issues/agendas relevant to the neonatal field
• Experience of working as part of a regional or national group to implement new guidance / change
• Knowledge and experience of research methodology, including study design and grant applications
• Knowledge and experience of audit methodology
• Experience of managing and supervising audit or research projects.
• Experience of writing reports and business cases
• Experience of writing drug policies and guidelines
• Proven experience of the delivery and evaluation of high-quality multidisciplinary education, training and mentoring
• Experience of managing/mentoring staff

Desirable criteria• Evidence of having written pharmaceutical and / or educational publications

Qualifications/ Education/Professional/ Statutory Registration
Essential criteria• Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
• Accredited as (or working towards) a Consultant Pharmacist or at Advanced stage II at RPS faculty level.
• Evidence of extensive Neonatal CPD in line with professional body neonatal competencies and maintenance of a Personal, Professional Profile
• Educational qualification, e.g. Diploma in clinical pharmacy
• Leadership course/module or recognised Leadership qualification
• Member of Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacist Group (NPPG)

Desirable criteria• Research degree (MSc, MRes, PhD) or working towards this qualification
