An exciting opportunity has arisen for an inspirational and motivated Sister to join the IV Therapy team at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at South Shore Primary Care Centre. This post is a fantastic opportunity for someone who has worked as a RGN in clinical areas across the primary and secondary care interface.

The successful applicant must demonstrate a passion for patient care and share the team’s commitment to deliver services that are reliable, of high quality and safe in an area of work that brings challenges yet is extremely rewarding. The IV Therapy Team is a developed service providing support for patients who require intravenous therapies delivered in a clinic setting and domiciliary visits.

We are looking to recruit a well established, motivated and enthusiastic RGN who has at least 5 years clinical experience. Must be able to work autonomously and as a team player, following direction from the Clinical Lead or Deputy Clinical lead.

The team lends a fantastic place to learn and develop skills also to work alongside skilled health professionals who work within the multidisciplinary team.

The post holder holds delegated responsibility for a caseload of patients, co-ordinating admissions & discharges to the Community IV Therapy service (COMMIT), for patients registered to GP surgeries within Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre locality.

The post holder should provide clinical leadership for the COMMIT service when the Clinical Lead is absent. To support the team leader to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the service and reporting any shortfalls.

Assess, plans, implements, evaluate & reassesses care and treatment of patients in their own home or IV clinic. Prescribing relevant medications. To assess referrals to ensure they meet the clinical criteria for Community IV.

Assesses & facilitates patient’s suitability for early discharge in association with hospital-based colleagues. Arranging continuation of treatment in the Community as required.

Establishes and maintains associated records in keeping with the NMC.

Provides leadership and operational management of the COMMIT service, supporting, supervising, and managing staffing in the absence of the Clinical Lead/Deputy Clinical Lead.

Liaise with other services within health and social services, voluntary and private sector.

Provide direct patient care.

Contribute to the development of the community nursing service.

Support community schedule for students: provide induction training and clinical supervision.

Non-medical prescribing in line with IV therapies outlined in the SOP.

The IV team is a small team, based at South Shore primary Care Centre, working in the community setting mainly within clinic but also do domiciliary visits. Nurse led, we are a 14 strong team.

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is situated on the west coast of Lancashire and offers a full range of district hospital services and community health services to a population of 1.6 million in Lancashire and South Cumbria.
