Summary


· To provide planned care such as outpatient clinics and treatment delivery in the haematology day unit in a way that’s safe, efficient and responsive for our patients

· To provide excellent urgent and emergency care, on the wards and on the day unit assessment unit.

· To ensure that the research work we do translates from the bench to the bedside

· To make sure that our team have the right skills and experience through high quality multi professional training

· To be innovative in our service design, using data to drive forward change

· To improve the efficiency of the haematology team and support the haematology treatment pathways and clinical workload

· To assess, clerk and review patients that are attend the haematology day unit unwell or pre treatment.

· To participate, and lead where appropriate, in ward rounds

· To perform and assist with practical procedures such as venepuncture, cannulas, blood gases, urinary catheters, paracentesis, pleural procedures, lumbar punctures, and support the booking of procedures and investigations as appropriate . Potential for training in bone marrow sampling.

· To participate in multidisciplinary meetings.

· To support our medical specialty colleagues by identifying and referring suitable patients for haematology review.

· To facilitate the safe and timely discharge of haematology patients

· To contribute to the achievement and maintenance of key acute haematology performance indicators

· To act as a consistent member of the haematology team and to help in handover processes and continuity of care for our patients

· To participate in teaching and quality improvement projects – developing and embedding new and innovative practices and policies
