About the job.

National Highways are recruiting for a HR Advisor - Policy and Guidance to join our HR team.

The successful candidate will be based in our Birmingham office. We have a flexible hybrid working approach, 40% of the week will be spent in the office and 60% will be spent working from home.

This is a fast-paced, exciting, and challenging role! National Highways has thousands of employees across the country, which means we have a whole range of HR queries coming in to the team to respond to and support on, including providing guidance on HR policies and procedures, and resolving queries from sickness absence management to flexible working and employee matters.

You'll join a large, energetic team who are constantly striving to improve our customer service through providing accurate first-line HR support.

We're looking for a self-motivated individual that strives for success in meeting deadlines and targets.

  • Provide first line advice to managers and employees within a fast-paced shared services team whilst working to tight deadlines within service level agreements.
  • Answering incoming HR calls and making outbound calls to resolve queries and help managers/employees.
  • Understand and be able to communicate HR policies, processes, and procedures to employees and managers and policy review updates.
  • Guide managers on sickness absence cases up to 3 months and other HR queries with support from the Employee Relations team.
  • Complete transactional changes such as processing Flexible Working Applications, Family Leave, Leavers and Partial Retirements.
  • Collate and monitor feedback, exceptions and trends through queries to suggest amendments and process improvements as required.

About you.

  • Experience of working in a customer focused environment.
  • Vocational or standard qualifications - either GSCE/A Levels or NVQ/Apprenticeship (Essential).
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships across HR to enable effective escalation of complex queries and answer policy and process questions.
  • Good organisation and problem-solving skills along with proven ability to liaise effectively with colleagues, work independently and demonstrate good written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience of using computer systems including Microsoft systems.
