Job Description

This role is for a professional civil/structural engineer within the Design & Engineering office, supporting RAF Menwith Hill. You will be responsible for managing, planning, and designing significant new construction, renovation, and improvement projects for facilities and utility systems. Key duties include overseeing construction contractors to ensure compliance with project specifications and schedules, as well as programming, budgeting, and executing projects. The position also involves providing consulting services, collecting and analyzing data, and ensuring all work is performed in strict compliance with health, safety, and environmental procedures.

Qualifications and Key skills for the position.
A valid UK driver's license (Category B) is required, in addition to:

A degree in an appropriate scientific field plus one year of specialized experience as per the required key skills, or

HND/City and Guilds/ NVQ Level 5/6 in an appropriate scientific field. Progressively more years of specialized experience (as outlined in the key skills) are required for qualifications below degree level.

1. Professional knowledge of civil engineering concepts, principles, and practices, incorporating aesthetic and functional design techniques, with a familiarity of architectural and other engineering disciplines.
2. Knowledge of a broad range of engineering and construction standards, methods, materials, and equipment to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and standard contracting procedures.
3. Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental principles, practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and current legislative issues.
4. Knowledge of program planning, budgeting cycles, financial control systems, and management, including regulatory and statutory restrictions on different types of funding.
5. Knowledge of automated data processing concepts, systems capabilities, and economic usage to effectively accomplish assigned functions.
6. Skill in preparing project documentation, including preliminary drawings, sketches, and construction drawings sufficient to convey design concepts and formulate working drawings.
7. Ability to plan, conduct, and record site/facilities surveys and inspections, and to analyze and interpret results to recommend timely and economical solutions.
8. Ability to plan and organize work, coordinate with other engineering disciplines and architects, and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to maintain good working relationships.

Conditions of employment

1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations. This position may also be coded as mission essential.
2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training.
3. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
4. Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with organization’s flexible working policies. Overtime may be required and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
5. You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
6. You may act as project liaison with the Army Corps of Engineers or other design agencies as required and serve on A&E selection boards.
7. You will have up to 24 months upon appointment to the position to meet the applicable mandatory experience, education, and training requirements.
8. The Local National Direct Hire (LNDH) Program does not participate in regular drug testing; however, positions covered by this document may be subject to drug testing upon reasonable suspicion of substance abuse, and safety mishap or accident testing

NOTE: You will require a security clearance and a right to work in the UK
