The Finishing Operative is responsible for the final stages of producing glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) or fiberglass products. Their job typically involves:
Key Responsibilities
Trimming & Cutting – Using tools like saws, routers, or knives to cut fiberglass to the required shape and size.
Sanding & Polishing – Smoothing out surfaces to remove imperfections, ensuring a high-quality finish.
Gel Coating & Painting – Applying protective coatings, paints, or resins for durability and appearance.
Assembly & Repairs – Fitting parts together, fixing defects, or reinforcing weak areas.
Quality Control – Checking finished products for defects, ensuring they meet industry standards.
Health & Safety Compliance – Working with protective gear and handling hazardous materials safely.
Skills & Requirements
Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
Ability to work with power tools and sanding equipment.
Understanding of health and safety regulations (e.g., wearing masks, ventilation).
Experience with resin application and fiberglass lamination is a plus.
Physical stamina for manual labour tasks.
