Ready for a New Challenge? Bring Your Expertise to the Heart of Local Democracy

In this role at Erewash Borough Council, we fully recognise the expertise and insight you bring. Erewash is investing in its staff to build an inclusive, innovative workplace where you can lead, influence, and make an impact - locally and beyond.

About the team

Join our small, dedicated Democratic, Electoral and Civic Services Team.

We work closely with councillors and colleagues across the council. We are also passionate about promoting democratic values in schools and the wider community, helping to inspire the next generation of active citizens.

As a valued part of a forward-thinking team, you’ll help shape local democracy and drive real improvements that matter to our residents.

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Democratic Services Officer in our proactive and friendly team. Ideally you will have experience of working in a local authority democratic services team but if you are an experienced professional with transferrable skills and a willingness to learn our procedures and relevant legislation quickly, this could be the job for you.

As well as the core responsibilities, you will take the lead on exciting projects that enhance how we deliver democratic services and strengthen our governance. If you’re an experienced administrator or PA ready for a fresh challenge, this could be your perfect next step.

Familiarity with the Modern.Gov committee management system is a bonus, but it’s not essential. What matters most is your attention to detail, organisational skills, and enthusiasm to learn and grow in a governance-focused role.

This is your chance to join a respected team at the heart of local decision-making - with the training and support to thrive.

What We are Looking For

We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable professional with:

• Experience of working at a senior level in an administrative setting
• Strong organisational skills with excellent written and verbal communication
• Confidence in delivering high-quality work and seeing projects through
• Ability to juggle complex workloads and shifting priorities
• A proactive mindset with a flair for innovation and service improvement
• A collaborative approach and confidence in advising a range of stakeholders

Why Join Us?

• Be part of a small, friendly, and supportive team
• Make a real impact in your community
• Enjoy flexible working arrangements and a strong work-life balance
• Access to professional development and training opportunities

• Politically Restricted Post: This is a politically restricted post under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989, which imposes limitations on the political activities of the post holder.

Please note: This role is only open to applicants who already have the right to work in the UK. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position.

Benefits of Working for Us

In addition to a competitive salary, you will also have access to:

• Generous annual leave package – 29 days annual leave (rising to 33 days after 5 years’ continuous service) plus 8 bank holidays a year
• Flexi Time scheme
• Free workplace car parking within the Borough
• Opportunities for training, learning and continuous professional development
• Family friendly, flexible and hybrid working policies available
• Option to join the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) plus access to a salary sacrifice scheme for added voluntary pension contributions
• Discounted leisure membership with the Fit for Work scheme
• Access to the VIVUP employee benefits discount and salary sacrifice scheme
