Summary

We are looking for a sharp, confident communicator to lead high impact customer communication and engagement across the Council. If you thrive on shaping messages, driving campaigns and building strong relationships, this role puts you at the heart of how we connect with our customers.

What you’ll do
• Lead integrated marketing, media and engagement activity across the organisation.
• Deliver targeted, evidence based campaigns with clear outcomes.
• Manage publications, customer communications and supplier relationships.
• Work closely with service teams to create clear, customer focused messaging.
• Advise senior leaders and councillors on communications and engagement.
• Ensure all activity meets legal, regulatory and reputational standards.
• Oversee budgets, track performance and manage a varied workload.

What you’ll bring
• Strong experience in marketing, media, engagement or PR in a large public sector setting.
• Proven success delivering campaigns and communication strategies.
• Confident people manager with experience overseeing suppliers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strategic thinker who can influence, collaborate and drive change.
• Politically aware, emotionally intelligent and resilient under pressure.
• Skilled at building trust with stakeholders at all levels.
• Highly organised, proactive and accountable.
• Degree level qualification (or equivalent) and commitment to ongoing development.
• Solid understanding of relevant legislation, including GDPR, publicity and equalities law.
• Strong IT skills across MS Office and digital engagement tools.
• Ability to travel independently.
