Principal Planner (PO5)

Description
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Principal Planner (PO5) to join our dynamic planning team. In this pivotal role, you will lead the development and execution of comprehensive planning strategies to support our organization's growth and development goals. As a Principal Planner, you will be responsible for overseeing complex planning projects and ensuring they align with both community needs and regulatory standards. This position requires a strong analytical mindset and the ability to collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders including government officials, community organizations, and private sector partners. You will also be responsible for mentoring junior planners and fostering a culture of innovation and sustainability within the team. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth understanding of urban planning principles, zoning regulations, and environmental policies. Your role will also include public engagement and the ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively to a variety of audiences. Responsibilities
Lead the planning process for large-scale development projects.
Conduct research and analysis to support planning initiatives and policies.
Collaborate with government agencies, stakeholders, and the community during the planning process.
Prepare and present reports, plans, and recommendations to elected officials and community groups.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and planning laws.
Mentor junior planning staff and support their professional development.
Develop strategies to enhance sustainability and community engagement in planning projects.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in urban planning or related field.
Strong knowledge of zoning laws, land use planning, and environmental regulations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proven experience in project management and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
Experience with public engagement and stakeholder collaboration.
Ability to analyse complex problems and develop effective solutions.
