Summary

A Personal Assistant is required to support a happy and sociable eight‑year‑old girl with complex physical and medical needs, living in Threemilestone.

She is a wheelchair user and depends on others for all aspects of her care. She is pre-verbal and communicates through limited use of Makaton, communication cards, facial expressions, and actions. She has a warm sense of humour and enjoys being involved in the activities around her.

She is sociable and she loves sitting down and playing. She also enjoys woodland walks, but does not like busy areas, loud noises, or crowds.

She requires constant supervision to ensure her wellbeing. Duties will include monitoring her at home and supporting her safely in the community. She needs close observation to ensure she is breathing correctly. She has a tracheotomy, requires suctioning, is PEG‑fed, and needs hoisting for transfers. Her family will always be present to carry out all health‑related tasks — the PA’s role will be to alert the family if support is required.

20 hours per week are available, with flexible scheduling to suit the candidate’s availability. Some weekend and school holiday availability will be required.

This is a rewarding role, supporting a young person to access the community, enjoy activities, and helping her family balance their daily lives.

The rate of pay starts at £13.50 per hour with potential increase based on skills and experience.

Some knowledge or personal experience of working with young people is essential. A full driving licence is desirable. Experience with complex medical needs is helpful but not essential.

The successful applicant will be employed under a private arrangement with the family, and not be employed or carry out work for Cornwall Council.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All offers of employment will be subject to the successful candidate undertaking an enhanced DBS check, the administration process will be undertaken by Cornwall Council.

If you would like to apply for this role, please send your CV. Alternatively, you can request an application form.
