Job Title: Mechanical Fitter (NG Authorised)
Location: Melksham Substation, Wiltshire
Job Type: Temporary (Contract)
Start Date: 2nd March 2026
End Date: 26th June 2026
Hours: 07:30 - 17:30 (Approx. 45 hours per week)
Rate: £300 per day (Dependent on Experience)
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced NG Authorised Mechanical / Electrical Fitter** to support works on a live transmission substation project. This role requires a hands-on individual with strong experience in high-voltage environments and the ability to work safely and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary site team.
A Lift Supervisor ticket iis essential for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out electrical and mechanical fitting activities on high-voltage switchgear, transformers, and associated equipment.
- Install control and protection systems in accordance with project specifications.
- Undertake installation of earthing systems.
- Install outdoor equipment including busbars, disconnectors, and switchgear.
- Perform maintenance of high-voltage plant and equipment.
- Conduct fault finding on both LV and HV systems.
- Receive and work in accordance with high-voltage documentation and permits.
- Support lifting operations in line with appointed Lift Supervisor responsibilities.
- Ensure strict adherence to site safety rules and procedures within a live substation environment.
Essential Requirements:
- Current National Grid Persons authorisation - Mandatory.
- Do you have a valid Lift Supervisor ticket
- Proven experience working within HV substations (installation and maintenance).
- Strong understanding of safe systems of work and permit control.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation.
- Experience working on transmission or heavy infrastructure projects.
Additional Information:
- Site-based role within an operational high-voltage environment.
- Contract required to support increased project workload.
- Candidates must meet all competency and authorisation requirements to be considered.
