Long Term Futures is partnering with a Merton based school specialising in Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) support to recruit a dedicated Teaching Assistant. This school provides a tailored curriculum for pupils who have found mainstream settings challenging, focusing on emotional regulation alongside academic progress.
Responsibilities
- Support pupils with complex SEMH needs and associated conditions such as ADHD or Autism.
- Work 1:1 with students to help them manage their emotions and engage with classroom activities.
- Assist the class teacher in delivering modified lessons that cater to individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Use de-escalation techniques to maintain a safe and productive learning environment.
- Foster a sense of belonging and confidence in students who may have had negative prior experiences with education.
Essential Candidate Requirements
- Experience working with SEMH, ASC, or challenging behaviour (within a school, youth club, or care setting).
- A calm, thick-skinned, and empathetic approach to supporting vulnerable young people.
- The ability to remain professional and composed during high-pressure situations.
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills to assist with Key Stage 1-4 curriculum tasks.
- A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for one).
