Summary

Post Companion Support worker
to a young at heat 50 something Lady who lives in Irvine.

Post --- 12 hours per week

Living wage rate - £13.73 per hour , wages are paid 4 weekly in arrears

Annual Leave - 5.6 weeks paid Annual leave pro rate for contracted staff

Days of work / times required

Tues – 10 – 2pm
Wed - 10 – 2pm
Fri – 10 – 2pm

Employer can be a bit flexible to suit school hrs.

Job Purpose
To support a lady with social support, getting out and about in her Community , crafting, Gym, swimming , shopping

Employer You will be employed by the personal employer, who will be assisted to administer payroll and undertake the necessary employment support responsibilities by a relevant support organisation.
Probationary period
• There is a 6 month probationary period attached to the post

• Successful applicant will have to undergo a new or update of the PVG disclosure scheme and supply 2 up to date reference contacts prior to appointment

Key Duties and Responsibilities
You will be responsible for supporting the employer to engage in all aspects of community life and activities as directed by her.

Being flexible is a key component to this job and you will be guided by the employer herself about the particular activities she wants to participate in at particular times and you are expected to support her choices.

The purpose of the role is to assist the employer to get out and about, engage in activities that suit her interests.

She very much enjoys swimming, going for a cuppa and cake, out for lunch. She enjoys arts and crafts. As well as a good natter and laugh.

You may at times be required to provide companionship in her own home. As well as some home supports. Some light housework and cooking, make a sandwich cup of tea for her, as well as visitors.

The employer has a travel card and would enjoy a day out using the bus or train, with support.

Preferable that you would have a drivers licence and own car ( fuel will be reimbursed for use while at work )

She would ideally like someone to have similar interests to herself, this will make it more enjoyable when attending a class or even doing Arts and crafts at home.

Training
The employer is deaf , but wears cochlear implants. Talk direct to the employer, as this assists with her understanding you. She can lip read.
She has limited vision, therefore requires your support outside, she uses her cane.

An understanding of how to support and facilitate in a way that empowers the person.
Good interpersonal skills and values reflecting social inclusion.
Excellent and effective communication skills.
Excellent listening skills.
Good organisational skills.
Working knowledge of good person-centred practice.

Experience
Can draw on lived experience of positively supporting someone as a peer or similar.
Can engage effectively and work in partnership with others.
Have supported people to achieve positive outcomes in their life.

Personal Qualities
The employer has a wide range of interests which are already mentioned.
She is looking to recruit someone with some similar interests.
She is looking for someone with a good sense of humour, down to earth, likes a good blether and a bit of banter but is also a good listener and responsible.
The person should be good at connecting into community activities and making contacts/networks Wide experience of community activities

Other
Preferably have a full clean UK driving licence , as well as business use on your car Ins.
You must be physically
You must have a good sense of humour, be flexible and reliable

There is a 6 month probationary period attached to this post, with a 1 weeks notice from either party within this time, if things are not working out
