The SENCO Role (Non‑Teaching)
Although not classroom‑based, this is a highly visible, hands‑on leadership role with significant impact across the school.
Classroom Support & Practice Development
- Working directly with pupils with EHCPs to provide targeted support.
- Modelling effective strategies to strengthen teaching and learning.
- Ensuring consistency and quality of provision across all year groups.
Multi‑Agency Coordination
- Building strong, professional relationships with external specialists including SaLT, OT, EPs, and other agencies.
- Coordinating assessments, interventions, and follow‑up actions to ensure seamless support for each child.
Leadership, Monitoring & Compliance
- Providing strategic feedback to SLT to shape whole‑school SEND development.
- Overseeing statutory processes, record‑keeping, and provision mapping.
- Leading on EHCP reviews and ensuring compliance with SEND legislation.
Parent & Community Engagement
- Hosting parent drop‑ins and supporting families with guidance and reassurance.
- Strengthening home‑school partnerships through clear, compassionate communication.
- Building trust with parents and carers to ensure every child's needs are understood and met.
What We're Looking For
A SENCO who brings expertise, warmth, and a deep commitment to inclusive practice. Essential requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- NASENCO Award
- Previous experience as a Primary SENCO
- A calm, approachable, and solution‑focused manner
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
