Assistant Planning Engineer
Aylesbury
We are innovative! - That’s why we need people like you to help us. People who enjoy finding new ways to do things…
We have an opportunity for an Assistant Planning Engineer to join our team working across HS2. This role is ideal for someone with site, engineering or project delivery experience who enjoys sequencing works, solving problems and understanding how programmes drive successful project delivery.
You’ll work alongside experienced planners and project managers, helping to develop, maintain and monitor project programmes to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with project requirements.
Here are some of the activities you will be involved in…
- Assisting with the development and maintenance of project programmes using Primavera P6 or similar planning software
- Monitoring project progress, identifying delays, risks and opportunities to improve delivery
- Working closely with site teams, engineers and project managers to gather accurate progress information
- Producing programme updates, reports and performance analysis for internal and client stakeholders
- Contributing to both short-term lookahead planning and long-term project scheduling
- Identifying programme risks and helping to develop mitigation strategies
- Preparing progress updates and planning information for client reporting
- Maintaining accurate planning records, documentation and programme data
- Collaborating with operational and commercial teams to ensure coordinated project delivery
We would love to hear from you if…
You have experience working within civil engineering, utilities or major infrastructure environments and have been exposed to project planning, scheduling or project controls activities. You will understand construction processes and project lifecycles and feel confident using planning software such as Primavera P6, Asta Powerproject or similar, alongside strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
You will be highly organised, with strong analytical skills, and comfortable communicating with both site and office-based teams. Experience working on HS2 or major rail or infrastructure projects would be advantageous, along with a degree or qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a similar discipline. Knowledge of NEC contracts, earned value management or wider project controls principles would also be beneficial, as would experience working within major contractor environments.
We would also welcome applications from candidates working towards professional membership with organisations such as APM, ICE or similar.
A full UK manual driving licence is required, as the role will involve travel to numerous sites including Calvert and Southam.
