Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Housing Options Team. We are looking for a permanent member of staff to join our proactive Homeless Prevention service.

With the introduction of the Renters Rights Act 2025 on 1 May 2026, you will be involved in providing accurate advice to applicants and landlords regarding this.

As an innovative, motivated, excellent communicator, you will also be responsible for assisting households who have been accepted by the authority as at risk of homelessness or homeless to resolve their housing situation.

This could involve a move within the private rented sector or sustaining their current accommodation. This involves holding a caseload and supporting those applicants to find a housing solution as part of their Personalised Housing Plans in line with the Homeless Reduction Act 2017.

You will promote a range of incentives to landlords to encourage them to let their properties to potentially homeless/vulnerable households. You are required to offer support where appropriate & negotiate with landlords and tenants to avoid tenancy breakdowns.

You will need to be enthusiastic and hardworking and have the ability to organise your own workload and multi-task. You will be responsible for liaising both internally and externally with partners.

The post requires strong and effective communication skills, computer literacy, and the ability to work within a team or independently while representing Thanet District Council in a professional manner.

This is a highly rewarding role and you will be working within a supportive team to achieve results for applicants in need of housing support.

For any further information about the role or an informal chat please contact Rebecca Gunn Senior Housing Options Officer via rebecca.gunn@thanet.gov.uk

Due to the nature of the role the successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check as part of their pre-employment checks

Interviews TBC

Thanet is a great place to live and work.

Our historic seaside towns of Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs and surrounding villages are rich in heritage and opportunity. With 19 miles of stunning coastline, our beautiful Blue Flag beaches, the internationally renowned Turner Contemporary, and the UK’s only Royal Harbour are all just a short train ride from central London thanks to the high-speed rail link. Our proximity to the port of Dover and the Eurotunnel at Folkestone mean Europe is literally on our doorstep too.

All of this, combined with a flexible approach to how we work makes it an exciting time to join Thanet District Council. We have set our sights high. We want our residents to enjoy the highest quality services. We want to ensure that by listening to local people, working in active partnership and doing things in an innovative way, we can accelerate improvement to meet the challenges ahead. We’d love you to join us!
