We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of Potable Water System at the 48th Civil Engineer Squadron, Royal Air Force (RAF) Lakenheath, United Kingdom.
What will be your primary role?
The primary purpose of this position is to maintain, overhaul, and repair water treatment and distribution systems and industrial waste treatment equipment and collection systems.
The employee will lead teams in performing all preventative and corrective tasks involved in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of water waste treatment equipment and systems; lead personnel in examining and troubleshooting by diagnosing malfunctions of complex machinery, equipment, and systems that have complex interrelationship; guide teams in developing and performing periodic preventive schedules, inspections, and maintenance on equipment and systems, water wells, water pumping and treatment equipment for condition and proper operation. They will also review work orders requirements reflecting systems, parts and assemblies to be repair or installed; interprets and applies directives, diagrams, multi-blueprints, sketches based on site inspection job. Uses and maintains tools. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Training will be given when needed and performing other duties within the water and fuel shop when required.
Qualifications:
- Applicants are required to have a BTEC Level 3/City and Guilds/NVQ in an appropriate discipline (such as Mechanical (or) Electrical Engineering)

What are the Key Skills required for this role?
1. Knowledge in planning work and leading teams to perform corrective and preventive maintenance tasks.
2. Ability to teach, lead, and independently diagnose, plan, and complete projects or work orders involving major water and wastewater systems in their entirety.
3. Knowledge of mechanical, electric, and electronic procedures, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components of industrial plant support machinery and equipment
4. Knowledge of operating characteristics of the involved systems and equipment, and the applicable installation and repair procedures, methods, and trade practices.
5. Knowledge and ability to use and work with test equipment and measuring devices, such as micrometers, dial indicators, anometers, and volt meters.
6. Knowledge of safety practices, regulations, and procedures.
7. Knowledge of materials and parts used in wastewater treatment plant maintenance and installation of new equipment; and both primary/secondary water and wastewater treatment processes.
8. Skill in use of hand and power tools and a variety of test equipment.
9. Skill and ability to read and use the requirements in technical manuals, shop directives, multi-view blueprints, sketches, diagrams, work orders, and other specifications.
10. Ability to troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, and maintain water and wastewater treatment plant equipment.
11. Ability to make templates, jigs, and other fixtures required for repair or installation.
What are the conditions of employment for this role?
1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations.
2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training, this position may also be coded as mission essential.
3. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
4. Overtime may be required, and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
5. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
6. Will be required to train/guide lower graded (or other trades) military/civilian employees.
7. The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Shift work may be required.
8. Your hours of work will be 39 hours per week on an a Fixed schedule (Mon-Fri) where start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with the organization’s flexible working policies.
9. The duties of this position require the employee to operate a motor vehicle. An appropriate, CAT B valid driver’s license is required
10. A pre-employment physical and Immunizations are required. This will be conducted at RAF Lakenheath.
