Job Description: Premises Assistant
Hours: Monday–Friday, 7:30am–3:30pm
DBS Requirement: Enhanced DBS required
Job Purpose
To support the effective maintenance, safety, and smooth daily operation of the site. The Premises Assistant ensures the environment is clean, secure, and well‑maintained, providing a safe and welcoming setting for staff, students, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
Site Maintenance & Repairs
Carry out general maintenance tasks and minor repairs such as painting, basic plumbing, or joinery.
Report major issues to the Premises Manager and support external contractors where required.
Maintain external grounds to ensure they remain safe, tidy, and hazard‑free.
Security & Safety
Open and prepare the site each morning for safe use by 7:30am.
Assist with securing the building at the end of the day when required.
Monitor site security and report any concerns promptly.
Conduct routine health and safety checks, including fire safety and emergency exit inspections.
Cleaning & Waste Management
Undertake routine cleaning tasks when required.
Support the cleaning team to maintain high standards of hygiene.
Handle waste disposal and recycling according to guidelines.
Facilities & Room Setup
Set up rooms, halls, and outdoor spaces for lessons, events, meetings, and exams.
Move furniture, equipment, and deliveries safely and efficiently.
Keep storage and equipment areas organised.
General Support
Assist staff and students with facilities‑related requests.
Move supplies or resources around the site as needed.
Perform other premises‑related tasks as requested by the Premises Manager or senior leadership.
Person Specification
Essential
Practical maintenance skills and willingness to undertake a wide range of physical tasks.
Reliable, punctual, and self‑motivated.
Good understanding of health and safety practices.
Positive attitude and strong communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Enhanced DBS clearance (mandatory).
Desirable
Previous experience in a premises, facilities, or caretaking role.
Basic knowledge of maintenance trades (plumbing, carpentry, electrical).
Understanding of safeguarding expectations.
