Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled individual to join a team of Electronics Mechanic's at the 100th Operations Squadron, Royal Air Force (RAF) Mildenhall, United Kingdom.
The primary purpose of this position is to install, modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot, & repair electronics equipment of moderate complexity or a system of limited complexity. You will set up and operate software controlled automatic test equipment to test & troubleshoot various components & assemblies of electronic equipment such as radio/radar receivers & transmitters; modulators; electronic analog & digital computer components; modules which contain integrated circuits; & printed circuit boards & assemblies. You will be required to use & maintain hand tools such as screwdrivers, drills, wrenches, soldering irons, & micro-soldering units, & to document work assignments through the use of internal forms and Core Automated Maintenance Systems computer terminals.
Qualification requirements for the position:
College level education minimum Level 3 (i.e. BTEC, City and Guilds, NVQ or ONC in an electronic engineering discipline together with a minimum of four years of radio engineering maintenance experience is required.
or
College level education minimum Level 4 /i.e. HNC/HND in an electronic engineering discipline together with experience in personal computer (PC) maintenance; Qualified ATC Radio or Navigational Aids Certifier experience is desirable.
What are the Key Skills required for this role?
1. Knowledge of electrical & electronic theory; & operating electronic principles such as micro-miniaturized digital & solid state integrated circuits, transistors, diodes, tube circuits, antennas, signal transmission, oscillation, & amplification.
2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, & procedures.
3. Skill in the use of electronic test equipment such as computer controlled automated test equipment, oscilloscopes, pulse and signal generators, distortion & waveform analyzers, digital data generators, digital voltmeters, frequency generators, & special test panels; & the use of a variety of hand tools such as screwdrivers, drills, wrenches, soldering irons, & micro-soldering units.
4. Ability to troubleshoot & repair malfunctions where circuit theory must be used to understand the operation of individual circuits & the interaction of other circuits to create a malfunction; & perform functional tests on items to determine the extent of repair required, make repairs, & replace defective components & parts.
5. Ability to assist engineers in developing, debugging, or modifying diagnostic programs by identifying & investigating apparent contradictions between test specifications or test requirement documents & test programs.
6. Ability to use computer terminals to maintain records & document actions.

1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US & UK laws, rules and regulations.
2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft & may be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training.
3. Required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
4. Overtime may be required, and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
5. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
6. This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
7. Hours of work: 39 hours weekly. Fixed schedule: Mon-Fri 07.30 -1630. Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with organization’s flexible working policies.
8. You may be required to work rotating shifts or uncommon tours of duty. Subject to call back to meet emergency situations. You may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
9. Pre-Appointment physical/health screening is required. Appointment may be contingent upon passing a physical examination. The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: Frequently lifts and carries, unassisted, items weighing up to 40 pounds. Sometimes required to lift and carry items weighing more than 50 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping. Climbing and working in high places may be required. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops, and microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components.
10. The work requires you to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate UK valid driver's license (Category C) is required for the position.
11. Employee must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance required for this position..
