Primary role

This working leader position guides a team of three or more HVAC technicians in full-time maintenance and repair. The role involves both performing and overseeing the team's work on complex boilers, heating equipment, and commercial/domestic refrigeration and air conditioning systems. The leader ensures all work, including installation, modification, and preventive maintenance, meets trade standards while also serving as a knowledgeable resource for the team on procedures and directives.

The employee must obtain and maintain all required US and UK industry certifications and complete all management-directed training. A critical requirement is to achieve Skilled Person certification within 12 months of employment by completing in-house system training and passing a DIO Authorized Person review. Training will be provided, but failure to obtain certification within this timeframe due to employee negligence will result in termination. Management will accommodate delays caused by circumstances beyond the employee's control.

Key Skills required for this role

1. Knowledge of combustion, heat transfer, and fuel characteristics to install, repair, and maintain boilers and heating systems. You must also understand refrigeration cycle principles, temperature measurement, and refrigerant properties. Additionally, a working knowledge of pneumatics, electricity, and basic electronics is needed to troubleshoot faults in temperature controls and related devices.
2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures; and regulations, procedures, and policies related to records maintenance and documentation.
3. Skill in the routine maintenance of motors, pumps, and valves, including replacing parts and servicing power sources. You must be proficient in installing, aligning, adjusting, and repairing various fuel burners and boiler components. Additionally, you must be able to perform major repairs on refrigeration and air conditioning systems, including the replacement of key components.
4. Skill in reading and applying work orders, blueprints, sketches, and other oral and written instructions.
5. Skill in the use of hand and power tools, and a variety of test and measuring equipment.
6. Ability to use shop mathematics to compute fuel consumption rates, heat generating units, and air-to-fuel ratios and conversions.
7. Ability to lead a team of three or more labor or trade employees.
8. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission.

2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training, this position may also be coded as mission essential.
3. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
4. Overtime may be required.
5. You may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent, however cannot be guaranteed and should not be expected.
6. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
7. Your work hours will be 39 hours per week on a fixed (Mon-Fri) where start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with the organization's flexible working policies.
9. Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Shift work may be required.
10. The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, CAT B UK valid driver's license is required for the position.
12. A pre-employment physical is required for this physically demanding role. The position involves working for long periods in uncomfortable positions, requiring frequent standing, bending, and climbing, including on ladders and scaffolds. You must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds. The role also requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth. When exposed to hazardous materials, the use of mandatory protective gear is required.
