Hours of work: 22.5 and 15 hours per week, flexible pattern
We are looking for suitably qualified staff member to perform the duties of a Support Worker in the BHRUT Ultrasound Department, Queens Hospital and to maintain smooth good patient flow throughout the department.
The role will involve supporting Radiologists and Ultrasonographers in the General and Maternity Ultrasound units, assisting in routine scans and providing support and care for emergency and in-patients. You will have the opportunity to assist Radiologists with invasive procedures e.g. steroid injections, using the aseptic technique, and on occasions may be expected to provide support for portable and theatre sonography.
A large portion of the role within the Maternity Ultrasound setting is data in-putting and on occasions a clerical supporting role is required but along-side this the candidate would need certain qualities as they may be expected to provide empathy and compassion to patients within the Maternity Unit who have experienced bad news eg miscarriage/finding of an abnormality.

We are a very large Radiology Department having five CT scanners and six MRI scanners as well as a dedicated Interventional Theatre Suite. We have a very large ultrasound department across both main hospitals and peripheral sites.
BHR is one of the largest associate teaching hospitals providing acute care for over 1,000,000 people from across two main sites – Queen’s and King George Hospital. The Queen’s Hospital is situated close to the A12, within walking distance of Romford British Rail Station and local amenities. King George Hospital is situated in Barley Lane, Goodmayes with good transport links.
All new staff appointed to posts at the Trust will be subject to a 6 months probationary period. This will give new staff members an opportunity to become familiar with the culture and working environment of the Trust.
• The job purpose of an Ultrasound Support Worker is to provide support to patients, Radiologists and Sonographers within Radiology.
• They will be expected to prepare and tidy rooms, care for patients, be aware of vital signs and assist when a patient receives IV cannulation (training will be provided where this is expected of the post holder).
• Undertake clinical and administrative duties.
• Communicate effectively with patients that present with different levels of understanding and/or behaviour
• The support worker should be able to undertake several duties that support the activity of the Radiology department.
• Undertake a flexible working pattern to support service needs.
A support worker should provide a comprehensive supporting role which forms the solid foundation to allow the Ultrasound Department to deliver a smoother, smarter and safer Ultrasound service with timely results to promote seamless, safe and high quality care to enable the trust to achieve key targets.
