Your Role
We are seeking an experienced Specialist EAL teacher to join our highly skilled primary team on a temporary basis (4 months only) to cover the secondment of one of our specialist teachers. The successful candidate will work with schools and teachers in an advisory role to promote best EAL practice across a school, demonstrate effective EAL teaching and learning strategies, deliver training, conduct English and First Language Assessments, and contribute to the creativity and growth of the service. This peripatetic role requires the skills and knowledge to work in a range of settings and you should be passionate about inclusion, equality and diversity and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
About You
As this is a short-term secondment cover, you will need to be an experienced Specialist EAL Teacher who has worked in an advisory position previously and is able to hit the ground running with minimal training. This includes experience of conducting specialist English Language and First Language Assessments with an interpreter. We are looking for someone who is passionate and cares about supporting children in Stockport who are learning English as an Additional Language (EAL). This includes some of the most vulnerable children in Stockport, such as those seeking asylum and refugee children. You will need to be a team-player with excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills.
About Us
Stockport’s Ethnic Diversity Service is a specialist service which provides a wide range of support for schools and children learning and using English as an Additional Language (EAL). We also promote equality and diversity, and have strong ties to Stockport Interpreting Unit. Our team of experienced and specialist qualified teachers work in partnership with schools to strengthen EAL provision. We provide strategic advice alongside practical teaching and learning strategies. In addition to our specialist teachers, we have a large bank of casual Bilingual Assistants, giving schools access to a multitude of languages to support their EAL children.
