Job Description:
Specialist Support Worker (BSL) — Complex Autism & Deafness
Urban Care Community Limited is an introductory company that connects Clients and Care Professionals to deliver cost-effective and better care. We are currently seeking a workforce requirement for a highly skilled and compassionate Specialist Support Worker who possesses experience and expertise in managing individuals with Autism, ADHD, profound Deafness, severe learning disability, visual impairment (nystagmus) and epilepsy.
About Client :
Client only communicates using a small set of BSL signs and personalised gestures, benefits from visual supports/routines, follows a Halal diet, and currently requires 3:1 support (moving towards 2:1 in the community). The role involves skilled PBS-led support for behaviours that may challenge (including aggression, self-injury and smearing), seizure awareness, and sensitive personal care, with close collaboration with his family.
What you’ll do
· Use BSL and visual supports to deliver consistent, low-arousal communication and routines.
· Provide PBS-informed support, recognising early escalation signs and using agreed proactive/reactive strategies.
· Support personal care with dignity, including infection-control measures when required.
· Enable safe community access within a 3:1 staffing model; follow travel and environmental risk plans.
· Administer/monitor medication as trained; follow epilepsy care plans.
· Record outcomes, incidents and daily notes accurately; liaise with family and MDT.
About you (Essential)
· BSL competence (Level 2 or equivalent) — essential.
· Proven experience with learning disability, autism and behaviours that may challenge (PBS practice).
· Calm, respectful and resilient; excellent boundaries; team player in high-support settings (3:1/2:1).
· Willing to work a 24/7 rota including waking nights/weekends; reliable record-keeping.
Desirable: Epilepsy and rescue-meds training; MAPA/PMVA or equivalent; full UK driving licence (for community access).
Safeguarding & Dignity: Following risk assessment and to meet personal-care/behavioural-risk needs, we are recruiting a male-only support team for this package (Genuine Occupational Requirement under Equality Act 2010, Sch 9(1)).
Other Benefits
Level 2 / 3 Qualification in Health & Socia Care
· Competitive pay with enhancements; mileage 45p/mile.
· Free uniform and Enhanced DBS; pension scheme.
· Paid training and career development
· Immediate start for experienced candidates with a valid DBS.
