Summary


A great opportunity has arisen for a enthusiastic, highly motivated, dynamic and forward-thinking Physiotherapist to lead our Surgical Rehabilitation Team.

An ideal candidate would possess effective communication and leadership skills, the ability to supervise and mentor junior staff and a have good working knowledge of trauma and orthopaedics.

The post holder will provide highly specialist physiotherapy assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for patients within the Surgical Rehabilitation pathway, including Trauma & Orthopaedics , elective orthopaedics and general surgical inpatients.

They will lead on the delivery of therapy interventions across designated surgical wards, supporting timely recovery, safe discharge and high-quality patient experience.

The post holder will work closely with Surgical consultants and wider MDT to ensure adherence to trauma pathways, enhanced recovery protocols and rehabilitation prescriptions. They will provide expert clinical guidance to junior staff, students and multidisciplinary colleagues, contributing to service development, operational management and clinical excellence within the surgical therapy team.

Previous NHS experience is required for this role

Provide highly specialist physiotherapy assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for complex elective orthopaedic, trauma and surgical patients.

Deliver peri-operative physiotherapy including pre-operative education/optimisation, early mobilisation, pain management strategies and discharge planning.

Provide supervision, clinical support and appraisal for Band 6 and Band 5 physiotherapists within the surgical team, and support the education and assessment of students on placement.

Promote a positive, inclusive learning environment within the team.

Participate in surgical MDT meetings, whiteboards and case discussions to support patient flow and safe discharge and provide specialist advice to medical and nursing staff.

Take part in a pre-operative, multi-disciplinary, outpatient’s clinic, including contributing to clinical decision making about fitness for surgery or pre-op requirements.

Contribute to the running of pre- and post- operative educational/exercise groups for elective surgery and evaluate their effectiveness.

Work with the team occupational therapists, trauma nurse co-ordinator, rehabilitation assistants and social care to manage the post-operative rehabilitation of patients in the community, to ensure a speedy recovery, and to minimise the risk of re-admission.
