About us

This is a fantastic time to join team Salford. The city is being transformed through unprecedented levels of development and investment and this growth trajectory is set to continue. Positive change can be seen on the ground across new City Centre neighbourhoods including Chapel Street, Greengate, Middlewood Locks and New Bailey, the landmark MediaCity development at Salford Quays (which is set to double in size), the UK’s first tri-modal port at Port Salford and the Royal Horticultural Society’s 5th garden RHS Garden Bridgewater. However, this is very much a job just started in delivering the next waves of sustainable and inclusive growth across our strategic growth locations, with the city on track to deliver circa 40,000 new homes and circa 40,000 new jobs by 2040. You can read more about why Salford is a city to watch.

At the heart of our plans for development is our vision to create a fairer and more inclusive local economy that delivers greater social and environmental justice, where wealth is shared more widely across all our communities.

It is within this context that we are now seeking to grow our Skills and Work team capacity linked to our ambitions to deliver inclusive growth. As a key part of our Build Salford programme, we are seeking to maximise the social value delivered through construction in the city and work with our developer and contractor partners to secure outcomes for local people.

We are seeking a new team member to bring experience, ideas and new perspectives to Salford and make a direct, visible, positive contribution to Salford’s inclusive growth ambitions for the benefit of our diverse communities.

About the Role

The project officer role provide a unique opportunity to work with multiple teams across the council and with city partners to develop our inclusive economy and regeneration plans.

The project officer role will support our social value and skills and work programme, increasing our ability as a council to shape social value and impact through construction projects in the city, maximising construction skills and employment opportunities in line with our employment and skills strategy. Working closely with contractors in our growth areas, we want to make sure that local residents have access to skills and work opportunities as a result of the growth of the city and this new role will be crucial in securing these outcomes in collaboration with our partners.

You will be looking at social value commitments secured through procurement and planning and working directly with contractors and developers to ensure they are connected to our programmes, teams and residents to maximise outcomes for communities. You will be involved in the full construction project lifecycle from design stages to in-use, influencing developer and contractor plans and turning these into delivery, and lessons learnt to take into other projects.

About you

We welcome applicants with some project management knowledge and experience who have a passion for regeneration and social value delivery. More important is to be a solution seeker with excellent communication skills who has the flexibility and drive to achieve key project milestones. A great collaborator and people-person, you will be assured in taking personal responsibility for activities and realising benefits for residents and communities.

If you would like an informal discussion about this role, please do not hesitate to contact Sarah Scanlan (sarah.scanlan@salford.gov.uk) or Nina Howells (nina.howells@salford.gov.uk) via email at to arrange a call.

Please be aware that this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and that you will be required to meet the cost of the DBS check currently £ £21.50 . The payment for this will be deducted from your first four months’ salary payments at a rate of £5.38 per month. If you do not commence employment for any reason but the DBS has been processed, you will be sent an invoice for the payment of £21.50
