About us

The Passenger Transport Unit support more than 1200+ SEND students to travel safely across the city and the northwest on a daily basis throughout the academic year to access their chosen educational and training provisions regardless of geographic location.

Our students range from early years to adult, therefore the operational transport service we provide is as diverse as the requirements of the individual students we support.

We currently have an exciting vacancy within our team to enable us to continue to build on our success and bring new experience, knowledge and ideas into the team.

About you

Your style and approach will reflect our values: you will be passionate about what you do, with relevant experience of operational passenger/load planning, routing and scheduling and with experience of using excel spreadsheets and online mapping to achieve this. Always striving to improve, valuing and respecting others contributions, you will work together to deliver a quality service; you will take pride in getting things right first time and learn from when things do go wrong; working mainly without supervision you will enjoy taking personal responsibility to resolve issues and change what you do and how you do it to make a difference for the users of the service and for the operational team.

About the role

The Transport Coordinating Officer role would suit an active and dynamic minded person, who can work independently and as part of a supportive team. Someone who thrives under, occasionally, challenging conditions, expanding their transport management knowledge and expertise, whilst actively assessing needs and requirements of service users. Coordinating and planning operational use of commissioned transport services from approved suppliers, ensuring cost efficient routing and scheduling of those “bought in” services, to provide successful, safe and enjoyable journey outcomes for all students. Managing day to day staff attendance, fulfilment of service enquiries and resolution of, sometimes complex, issues and complaints from all stakeholders and suppliers in a sympathetic and diplomatic manner.

Please be aware that this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and that you will be required to meet the cost of the DBS check currently £49.50. The payment for this will be deducted from your first four months’ salary payments at a rate of £12.38 per month. If you do not commence employment for any reason but the DBS has been processed, you will be sent an invoice for the payment of £49.50.

If you have lived or worked abroad for 3 months or more in the last 5 years or 12 months or more (whether continuously or in total) in the last 10 years whilst aged 18 or over, please refer to the link below for details for how to obtain your Certificates of Good Character. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/criminal-records-checks-for-overseas-applicants
