Summary
Key Duties: Clinical and Operational Leadership Responsible for the clinical management and daily operation of the MIU, including staff oversight, patient flow, resource allocation providing a high-quality service. Responsible for finance and budget management. Lead and manage the MIU team, providing supervision, mentorship, and professional development for nursing and support staff. Contribute to service development, audit, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and the efficiency of the service Promote collaborative working across the multidisciplinary team and wider health and social care partners to support integrated urgent care pathways. Lead on the safe and effective use of clinical and non-clinical resources, including equipment, consumables, and IT systems. Participate in clinical governance, risk management, incident reporting, and implementation of evidence-based guidelines. Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control, safeguarding, and health and safety compliance. Work autonomously to assess, investigate, diagnose, and treat patients presenting with minor injuries, ensuring safe and effective care. Order and interpret investigations (e.g; x-rays, ECGs) and initiate appropriate treatment and referral. Provide emergency interventions, stabilisation, and escalation when patients present with more complex or deteriorating conditions. Work closely with ENPs across both the acute and community sites to continually strive to deliver best practice and improve patient outcomes. Develop good working relations with departmental leads on the Kidderminster hospital site Be part of the on-call hospital bleep team for the Kidderminster site. Professional and Personal Responsibilities Maintain active professional registration (NMC) and adhere to the relevant Code of Conduct. Engage in continuing professional development (CPD), reflective practice, and appraisal to maintain and advance clinical skills. Act as a role model, demonstrating high standards of clinical practice, professionalism, and compassionate patient centred care. Uphold equality, diversity, and inclusion in all areas of practice. Contribute to audit, research, and service development initiatives to drive quality improvement with in the MIU. Represent the service at meetings and contribute to the development of urgent and emergency care pathways. Staff Management and Leadership Provide visible and accessible leadership to the MIU team, fostering a positive and supportive working environment. Line manage staff with in the MIU, including appraisals, supervision, absence/sickness management and performance reviews. Support recruitment, induction, and ongoing development of staff, ensuring workforce sustainability Promote staff wellbeing, resilience, and professional growth through coaching, mentorship, and training opportunities. Develop and maintain multidisciplinary and interagency working relationships to ensure seamless patient care. Ensure safe staffing levels, participating in rota planning and deployment of resources Deliver effective communications using recognised tools including newsletters, regular staff meetings, learning from incidents Promote an inclusive and supportive culture. Lead by example promoting the trusts vision and values.
