Job description
37 hours per week

Fixed Term for up to 24 months

This is an exciting opportunity to join the local authority's Catering Service as an apprentice, supporting the service with its business support requirements. This post will help give you valuable skills and experience to pursue a career in business administration.

As a member of the Catering Service, you will support the delivery of school meals to 58 schools.

As a Business Support Apprentice you will assist in provision of clerical support to the Catering Service central team based in Bryncethin, Bridgend. We will provide you with on-the-job training and experience as part of the Administrative Apprentice Framework, including the achievement of a QCF Level 3 qualification in Business Administration.

Your day-to-day duties will be varied an interesting and will include:
  • assisting in areas of administration within the service area, providing general administrative support to managers and teams.
  • assisting the review of administrative processes and procedures to ensure that they are customer focussed and efficient, to improve service delivery.
  • undertaking specific project work under the direction and supervision of the manager.
  • assisting the administration of meetings by co-ordinating calendars, circulating documentation and under supervision taking and distributing minutes.
  • assisting in the maintenance of electronic filing systems.
  • undertaking reporting, data interrogation / analysis.
  • liaising with members of staff at all levels on relevant work matters.

You will need to possess excellent ICT skills and good customer focus. Experience of using Microsoft Office products, supported by a good standard of education is advantageous. You will be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. An experience of using information and administrative systems would be an advantage. In addition, the role also requires good analytical skills, self-motivation and good multi-tasking skills.

Applicants will not be considered for those who have already achieved a qualification, at an equivalent or higher level in same subject area, including degree level. Also, applicants currently in receipt of WG funding for study purposes will not be able to be considered.

The ability to greet customers through the medium of Welsh is a requirement for this post.
