Summary

The Strategy Unit (SU) sits at the heart of DCMS and oversees cross-cutting policy, legislation and fiscal events. We are a friendly, supportive and high performing team of around 35 people, leading on departmental strategy, working with teams and senior leaders across the department to develop long-term plans that meet our Ministers’ ambitions.

The roles will sit in the Strategy Unit’s Cross-Government Strategy & Foresight Team. It’s an exciting time to join as the team is expanding to help the department identify and meet the challenges and opportunities of the next decade.

Working with the Grade 7s in the team, you will support on essential cross-government workstreams relating to regulatory and legislative strategy, including coordinating DCMS’s contribution to the Regulation Action Plan, and ensuring DCMS is complying with the principles of the Better Regulation Framework. Alongside this, you will assist in other key processes for the department including those relating to collective agreement and Cabinet briefings.

This role will suit someone with an interest in coordinating complex cross-government processes and helping to deliver high-quality regulation and legislation, and is a strategic thinker who is able to juggle multiple priorities and to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

We are looking for a self-motivated, resilient strategic thinker with strong coordination skills. You will:

  • Support with coordination of DCMS’s contribution to the current cross-government programme of regulatory reform, including the HMT Regulation Action Plan published in March 2025
  • Play a key role as a member of the DCMS Better Regulation Unit: tracking the department’s regulatory programme, advising teams on how to apply the principles of the Better Regulation Unit, and liaising with the independent Regulatory Policy Committee
  • Assist with coordination of the department’s legislative programme, and with monitoring other Government departments’ legislation to understand possible implications for DCMS
  • Help coordinate and track DCMS write-rounds, ensuring the Strategy Unit has an accurate forward look of work requiring collective agreement
  • Provide ad-hoc advice and support to teams on legislative strategy, better regulation and other strategic work as required

This is a fast paced and varied role, which will involve building networks and managing your time carefully. You will be part of a supportive and collaborative wider team helping to drive forward the Department's strategic priorities.
