At the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH), we are seeking a passionate and forward-thinking Cardiology Matron to join our senior nursing team and provide operational and clinical leadership across our busy and innovative cardiology services.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to shaping the future of cardiac care in a large teaching hospital, supporting excellence in clinical standards and patient experience.
The successful candidate will report to the Care Group G Associate Nurse Director, having accountability for the workforce, safety, quality of care and financial aspects of the department.
The role will also cover our Medical Day Unit, which provides outpatient treatment, to support admission avoidance and supporting elective biopsies and procedures.

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management and professional nursing leadership of both the Cardiology Department and the Aylsham Medical Day Unit (AMDU) at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
They will work closely with the Associate Nurse Director, Associate Operations Director, and Associate Clinical Director.
The Cardiology Matron will provide visible, positive, and proactive leadership, promoting a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous quality improvement. They will be responsible for building collaborative relationships across multidisciplinary teams to support high standards of care without compromising wider strategic objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
• Leading the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centred care in line with national, regional, and local policies.
• Driving service improvement and learning through clinical governance processes, including audit, incident review, and patient feedback.
• Championing improvements in patient experience through a culture of compassion, learning, and innovation.
• Providing professional support and leadership to nursing teams, including workforce development, recruitment, retention, and staff wellbeing.
• Maintaining oversight of staffing levels, skill mix, and safe rostering across the service areas. Hold delegated budgetary responsibility for the Cardiology Department and AMDU.

• Ensure that employment policies and procedures of the Trust are followed.
• Participate in selection and appointment of staff as appropriate.
• Monitor sickness/absence levels and take appropriate action to reduce. Support the Band 7 nurses/midwifery/practitioner in managing absence.
• Promote staff development through regular performance reviews and personal development plans.
• Maintain own professional development and keep up to date with nursing/midwifery/practitioner practice. Development in terms of master’s modules or leadership program,
• Ensure that the education, training, and professional development needs of nursing/midwifery/practitioner staff are identified, and appropriate plans are in place to meet these needs. Participate in the training of staff as appropriate.
• Ensure that staff are compliant with their statutory and mandatory training.
• Liaise with the University of East Anglia and other education providers to facilitate the provision of placement of learners
