Summary
We are looking for an experienced Clinical Psychologist, to take up a new role working with the Critical Care team at the Norfolk and Norwich hospital. It is an exciting opportunity to set up a new service supporting patients in intensive care and their families.
The Critical Care Complex is a 28 bedded unit, with a multi-disciplinary staff team of consultants, specialist nurses and other AHPs. There has not previously been a dedicated clinical psychologist in Critical Care, although the team have benefitted from input from the mental health liaison team. The Critical Care Team are looking forward to working with the Clinical Psychologist to develop this new provision and expect them to be a fully integrated member of the CCC. Experience of working in a critical care setting and knowledge of the specific challenges associated with this context is desirable.
An important component of this role will be to identify the priorities for how to use the psychology hours most effectively, liaising with key stake holders, identifying referral criteria, and collecting data to demonstrate the value of the role. Key performance indicators and quality requirements have been developed for this role, these are provided in the attached document.
The inpatient work will follow the patient’s journey from theatre, recovery, intensive care and follow-up after discharge for those who are struggling with adjustment. Clinical referrals might include support related to delirium, mood symptoms, cognitive impairment, and symptoms of psychological trauma.
The role will also include supporting families and staff as well as staff education around psychological issues.
We want to become a more diverse and inclusive department; therefore we welcome and actively encourage applications from candidates from a broad range of backgrounds, with different lived and learned experiences.
