Summary

Research Associate
Division of Biomedicine, School of Biosciences
Cardiff University

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and passionate Research Associate to join our team as part of the UKRI-funded BBSRC Pioneer Award project investigating epigenetic regulation of jellyfish rejuvenation led by Dr Tomasz Jurkowski at the School of Biosciences, Cardiff University.

You will work closely with MSc students and a computational biologist and play a key role in advancing our research efforts, focusing on the molecular mechanisms of jellyfish rejuvenation. You will use low-input next-generation sequencing-based epigenomic profiling technologies to investigate the epigenetic mechanisms that guide the rejuvenation process. Specifically, you will employ an unbiased profiling approach to obtain global epigenetic and transcriptional maps of Turritopsis sp. jellyfish medusas and polyps, as well as rejuvenating individuals and identify changes associated with the progression of rejuvenation. You will then dissect the regulatory role of identified epigenetic changes and examine their functional relevance.

The ideal candidate may hold a PhD degree and have experience in a related subject area (e.g. epigenetics, epigenomics, synthetic biology) and possess strong experimental skills. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in DNA methylation and transcriptional analysis, next-generation sequencing and library preparation, and bioinformatic data analysis.

This position is full-time (35 hours per week) and fixed term until 31st March 2026.

Secondment opportunity welcome - please note, Cardiff University members of staff interested in this post on a secondment basis, permission will need to be sought from your current Line Manager before applying.

Salary: £40,497 – £45,413 per annum (Grade 6). Please note that it is not expected that we will appoint above grade 6.36, currently £45,413 per annum.

Date Advertised: 20 August 2025
