The Role: Graduate Science Academic Mentor

Position Highlights:

• Full-time, long-term Graduate Science Academic Mentor position starting September 2025
• Competitive salary: up to £560 per week
• Based in Leeds with excellent transport connections
• Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:45pm
• Ideal preparation for aspiring science teachers
• Direct pathway to salaried teacher training from September 2026

What You'll Do

As our Graduate Science Academic Mentor, you'll become an essential member of a dynamic Science department that prioritizes innovative, hands-on learning. Your responsibilities will include:

• Delivering targeted support to students in one-to-one and small group sessions
• Assisting with engaging practical experiments and laboratory activities
• Helping students master challenging scientific concepts across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
• Supporting lesson delivery and curriculum development
• Mentoring students who need extra guidance to achieve their target grades
• Contributing to the department's commitment to active, experiential learning

This Graduate Science Academic Mentor role goes beyond traditional teaching assistance—you'll be actively shaping young scientists' understanding and confidence in STEM subjects.

Who We're Seeking

Essential Requirements:

• First-class or 2:1 degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or related science discipline
• Strong subject knowledge across multiple science areas
• Excellent communication and mentoring skills
• Genuine enthusiasm for science education and student development
• Ability to adapt teaching approaches for diverse learning styles

Highly Desirable:

• Previous experience working with young people or in educational settings
• Understanding of current science curriculum requirements
