We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated ambitious individual to join our well integrated team to support us with our treatment and education services in Paediatric Dentistry. We offer excellent clinical facilities in our dedicated Paediatric Dentistry Department; which consists of bays and surgeries. All surgeries have the facility to undertake inhalational sedation. The post is available from 1st September 2025 and is a 12 month locum position.

You will be an experienced Dental Surgeon with an enthusiasm to communicate your own knowledge and experience to students and patients. You will have been fully registered with the GDC for at least three years and have experience of managing paediatric dental patients. Candidates should have experience of treating patients with inhalation sedation. You will be offered a structured induction and support with the opportunity for further educational development. You will assume responsibility for the planning, co-ordination and delivery of specific components of service and teaching in partnership with clinical and academic colleagues.

The primary aim of the 1.0 WTE Locum Specialty Doctor in Paediatric Dentistry post is to join the existing well-integrated team to help support a consultant lead service at tertiary level to the population of the North-East and beyond. This post is configured to support the clinical activities of the specialty. The successful applicant will help to provide a comprehensive diagnostic, treatment and advisory service in Paediatric Dentistry based within the Trust at the Dental Hospital, Freeman Hospital and Great North Children’s Hospital. Day case and access to in-patient operating facilities are available. The successful applicant will contribute to provision of the Paediatric Dental Casualty Service and will be involved with both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision.

Clinical:
• To provide clinical service for patients attending Paediatric Dental services of the Trust
• To deliver service in accordance with the Job Purpose
• Undertake clinical teaching and supervision of Junior Dental Staff including undergraduate students.
• Provide Cover for Junior Dental Staff at the Dental Hospital as necessary

Managerial:
• Play an active role in the day-to-day organisation and delivery of clinical services as part of the consultant team.
• Participate in the clinical audit, governance activities and continuous development of the Children’s department, Dental Hospital and Trust.

Administrative:
• Undertake general administrative duties within a context of compliance with Directorate and Trust aims and objectives.
• Prompt and effective delivery of administrative duties which support clinical services and training of junior staff.
• You will be expected to run and manage outpatient clinics to deliver quality patient throughout
• Correspondence to practitioners in and out with the Trust should be done in a timely manner
• Undergo Continued Professional Development in accordance with guidelines stipulated by the Trust and GDC.

Research:
• You will contribute to the research efforts of the department and others as identified by the Directorate
• You will contribute to Quality Innovations / Improvements within the Department and Directorate

Teaching:
• Contribute to the training of NHS junior staff
• Contribute to training of non Specialist clinicians
• You will play a major part in the training of students, junior colleagues and registrars undergoing higher training in the dental and medical specialties as appropriate
