Our role is for a confident, collaborative Senior BMS ready to lead and grow our dissection services at the core of our fast-moving, fully digitised lab.
You’ll apply your advanced dissection skills to deliver a high-quality, efficient service while developing new protocols, supporting colleagues, and driving standards forward.
For you, that means the chance to lead, shape, and evolve a specialist area you love — in a lab culture that values curiosity, autonomy, and continuous improvement.
You’ll grow your expertise in advanced specimen sampling, digital diagnostics, and UKAS-accredited best practice — all while mentoring a skilled team and influencing how pathology is delivered at scale.
If you’ve been looking for a role that values your dissection knowledge, supports your professional growth, and gives you space to thrive, this is it.
Your Key Impact

Train others in histology workflow — from accessioning to digitisation
Share your specialist insight across clinical teams and with our Laboratory Director
Uphold rigorous QA/QC practices — contribute directly to UKAS readiness and audits
Drive method development and R&D in collaboration with our Chief Medical Officer
Stay sharp — attend CPD, maintain documentation, manage inventory, and ensure lab compliance
Represent the lab at internal and external meetings and take part in interviews and appraisals
Be the voice of quality, safety, and continual improvement across all lab activity
What You’ll Bring
HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
Completed your IBMS Higher Specialist Portfolio or relevant MSc (preferred)
5+ years of histology experience, including dissection, embedding, microtomy, and special stains
A strong track record mentoring, supervising and supporting other staff
Deep familiarity with UKAS audits and accreditation standards
Strong technical troubleshooting and advanced lab instrumentation skills
Proven ability to deliver training and maintain staff competencies
Experience using data tools and understanding of statistical and diagnostic principle
What else we value;
Excellent communication skills — verbal, written, and across teams
Passion for innovation, quality, and improving patient outcomes
Committed to staying up to date in all areas of histopathology — both practical and theoretical
