Are you a recent graduate with a background in law, insurance or a property-related subject? Are you looking to build a long-term, rewarding career in underwriting where you can combine your academic knowledge with commercial experience and client interaction? If so, this could be a great place to start.
We’re currently recruiting for a Graduate Underwriting Assistant to join a well-established underwriting team based in Leeds. This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a respected organisation that specialises in legal indemnity insurance and supports major property and finance transactions across the UK.
In this role, you'll be working closely with experienced Underwriters, gaining hands-on experience across a range of tasks. You’ll help review and summarise legal and property-related documents, handle new business enquiries, liaise with clients and brokers, and assist with policy wordings. Over time, you’ll build a strong understanding of legal indemnity risks and develop the confidence to assess complex scenarios, contribute to underwriting decisions and support high-value cases.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Gathering and preparing information to support underwriting decisions
- Communicating with clients and brokers via phone and email
- Assisting with drafting and reviewing policy wordings
- Keeping internal systems up to date and accurate
- Building strong working relationships with solicitors, clients and intermediaries
This is a graduate-entry position for someone who is serious about developing a career in underwriting. You’ll benefit from structured training, day-to-day learning, and support in working towards professional qualifications through a continuous development programme.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A recent degree (2:1 or above) in law, insurance, business or a property-related field
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organisational and analytical abilities
- The ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
- A commercially aware, client-focused mindset
- A positive, proactive attitude and a genuine willingness to learn
This role offers a clear path into a specialist field of insurance, with the opportunity to develop practical skills, work with experienced professionals and grow in a supportive, hybrid-working environment.
If you're a recent graduate ready to start your career in underwriting, we’d love to hear from you.
