Summary
The successful candidate will have responsibility for:
Welfare Support: Direct support to civilian witnesses (current and former civil servants), as well as to military witnesses (serving and veterans).
Embracing ‘One Team’ Ethos: Working in close conjunction with military counterparts (serving and reservists) in the Witness Support Team and relevant POCs in military HQs to ensure effective coordination and coherence of effort.
Risk Assessment: Supporting the assessment of risks to witnesses (physical, mental, welfare, security).
Liaison: Engaging with the Witness Legal Team (WLT) on a regular basis to support their requirements in respect of witness support (administrative and logistical), whilst observing the division of all legal support and advice from pastoral and wellbeing support that you provide or facilitate through relevant stakeholders (associations, charities, or otherwise). This will include facilitating meetings and escorting witnesses to / in / from court.
Security: Facilitating the provision of appropriate security measures for witnesses when they are called to provide evidence in court.
Safeguarding: Monitor and address any safeguarding concerns involving witnesses, to ensure that all cases are managed appropriately in line with safeguarding policies and procedures.
Financial Accountability: Ensure that witnesses are aware of the financial support that is available; that witnesses’ expenses are claimed in a timely and efficient manner; that all expenses are reasonable, proportionate and in line with established departmental policies.
