Hays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a Winsford-based SEND school that supports pupils with a variety of complex and profound needs from EYFS - KS4. This is an extremely welcoming and supportive school that is looking to appoint teaching assistants on a long-term full-time basis from September.

Your new role
As a teaching assistant within this school, you support in a number of different classes, assisting class teachers to promote an engaging and stimulating learning environment, as well as adapting your approach to best suit the class and individual attainment needs. You will offer 1:1 support on a timetabled basis across the school, taking a pupil-centred approach to education as to build strong constructive relationships. The pupils you will be supporting have a variety of complex special educational needs (SEN) that include ASD, LD, non-verbal, visual impairments, GLD, PECA, cerebral palsy, etc, and require 1:1 support on a timetabled basis. You will play a key part in ensuring that these pupils reach their full academic potential by following their EHCP's, meeting key requirements, maintaining records, and liaising with teachers and SENCO on their progress. Your duties will typically include:

  • Behaviour management; implementing an array of positive behaviour strategies including sensory circuits, brain breaks, movement breaks, bucket therapy, traffic light systems and pressure therapy
  • Speech and language interventions, including the use of PECs, Makaton and AAC
  • Working in partnership with external professionals, including speech and language therapists, behaviour specialists, physio-therapists and educational psychologists
  • Personal/intimate care requirements


What you'll need to succeed
To be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work", be willing to undergo DBS screening, have referenceable experience supporting SEN and:

  • Be able to commit to a long-term full-time contract (32.5 hours per week)
  • Have experience implementing positive behaviour strategies
  • An NVQ Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification is advantageous but not essential
