The Role

As a Graduate Trainee Teacher of English, you will join a passionate and experienced English department. With tailored guidance and increasing responsibility over the year, you’ll gain the skills, confidence, and subject expertise needed to become an effective and inspiring classroom teacher.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the planning and delivery of engaging English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4


  • Lead small-group interventions to support literacy development and close learning gaps


  • Collaborate with colleagues on schemes of work, assessment, and resource creation


  • Foster a classroom environment that promotes curiosity, discussion, and a love of reading and writing


  • Take part in regular training sessions and receive one-to-one mentoring throughout your QTS journey


  • Contribute to extracurricular activities, school-wide literacy initiatives, and department projects


    Person Specification

    • A minimum of a 2:1 degree in English Literature, English Language, or a closely related field


    • A genuine enthusiasm for education and a strong interest in secondary teaching


    • Prior experience working with young people (e.g., tutoring, mentoring, volunteering) is beneficial


    • Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills


    • A reflective and proactive approach to learning and professional development
