Summary

The safety, compliance and resilience of our estate depends on effective leadership. As Statutory Maintenance Manager, you’ll ensure Cardiff Met’s buildings and infrastructure meet the highest standards of statutory and regulatory performance—supporting our ambition to maintain a safe, sustainable, and student-centred environment.

You’ll lead the way by:

Overseeing statutory compliance programmes across the estate.
Be the Approved Person for areas where you are technically competent to do so, and ensuring AP’s are in place for all other systems where required
Managing planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and statutory inspections.
Developing robust tracking systems, compliance dashboards, and contractor audit processes.
Leading a small, dedicated compliance team, act as a key technical advisor across the University.
Working closely with teams and colleagues across the university to ensure responsibilities for all compliance activities are clearly defined and delivered, reducing risk and improving performance.
Supporting Strategy 2030 and the University's net zero commitments by aligning compliance with sustainable operations.


What you’ll bring

With a strong background in statutory compliance and estates management, you’ll bring a practical understanding of technical standards, contractor oversight and safe systems of work. Your ability to plan, lead, and collaborate will be essential to ensuring our built environment remains fully compliant and future ready.

Minimum of HNC/HND or equivalent in building services, engineering, or facilities management and a member of IWFM.
Significant experience in managing statutory compliance across large estates or facilities environments.
Strong technical knowledge in relevant legislation, compliance processes, and risk management.
Proficiency in contractor management and performance auditing.
Robust knowledge of IWMS/CAFM systems, data-led management and compliance reporting.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Demonstrable personal commitment to addressing climate change
Ideally, experience in higher education or public sector settings and holding NEBOSH/IOSH certification.
