Summary

The Sports Development Officer will be the conduit to providing grassroots opportunities and thus supporting the RN sports continuum at all levels, assisting in the delivery of regional sporting events and NavyFit festivals at their establishment. Additionally, aid in the promotion of the Live Well strategy, promoting, supporting and facilitating all health and wellbeing functions within the Establishment.

1. Co-ordinate all JSP660 and BR51 relevant Sport output within the establishment, including the day-to-day planning, coordination, and organisation of individual and team sporting opportunities. Promote and administer inter-part and inter-establishment sports competitions and NavyFit Festivals as part of the RN Sports continuum development.


2. Provide logistical support and guidance for the provision of establishment Sport during and out of traditional working hours. Support the PDev support officer in managing and procuring an inventory of consumable sports equipment to effectively deliver sporting output.

3. Plan, co-ordinate and facilitate weekly recreation periods for Phase Two and Three trainees. Utilising local sport coaches alongside PT Staff to deliver a diverse range of grassroots sports. Highlighting talented individuals and instigating their journey up the player pathway.


4. Maintain effective lines of communication with relevant Staff within People Support (DRU, PEd, Sports Development Officers) and Sports Associations to generate effective promotion and participation of establishment sports activities.


5. Provide logistical and secretarial support, as appropriate, for Regional and RN level sport events held within their establishment.


6. Where practicable in terms of establishment Sports requirements, personal situation and external factors, conduct sports coaching in accordance with relevant (in date) National Governing Bodies (NGB) qualifications. When required to perform such activities for the benefit of the Unit, every effort will be made to ensure personal needs/requirements of the Sports Development Officer are considered and that their absence from the Unit can be facilitated without compromising operational capability. In order to maintain a high level of potential in terms of sport provision, personnel with recognised qualifications are to be assisted to maintain currency in terms of meeting costs of continuation training and courses set by the NGB.

7. Where applicable conduct fitness instructing/coaching holding the relevant (in date) nationally recognised certification. Additionally, aid in the striking of PH2/3 Syllabus lessons as required. In order to maintain a high level of potential in terms of fitness instructing provision, personnel with recognised qualifications are to be assisted to maintain currency in terms of meeting costs of continuation training and courses set by the National Governing Bodies.


8. Complete any appropriate or related work as required by PDev support officer or CPOPT to meet the Establishment/SARC needs.


9. Act as needed on behalf of the PDev Support Officer in liaison with the CPOPT for any Establishment Health and Wellbeing promotion, events, or courses. Act as a member of the Unit Health Committee and deliver Defence Health and Wellbeing courses as promulgated by the ER CPOPT.


10. Work in accordance with gymnasium requirements including conducting SARC duties (1 in 12), managing assigned areas of responsibility within the SARC, events including delivery outside of core working hours and weekends (weekly hours of 42 Gross, 37 Net).
