The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) is an executive agency of the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, and works on behalf of the Scottish Government and Welsh Government. Our diverse teams of over 3,000 skilled and committed professionals (dispersed over 90 sites) come together to provide research, advice and support to UK Government for safeguarding animal, public and plant health for benefit of the environment and economy.
This role acts as the APHA security intelligent client lead for the Weybridge Estate and the wider APHA corporate portfolio. The role will lead on the mitigation of APHA security risks in relation to physical and personnel security issues (considering cyber) holistically aligned to Defra Security standards, or developing bespoke policies for APHA in conjunction with Defra as required.
The role is responsible for ensuring APHA’s continuous security improvement in working closely with Security and Property colleagues within Defra in an intelligent client role; you will support and advise colleagues in delivering a collaborative and holistic approach to security risk management and lead on management of security risks and incidents associated with APHAs business operations. You will support line managers and team leaders with their own security responsibilities, helping to build a strong security culture.
This is an exciting and meaningful opportunity to join the Government Security Profession, playing a significant part in ensuring the APHA is meeting its wide-ranging obligations. transformation, and establishing a new security function for APHA aligned to Government Functional Standard Security 007 (GovS 007).
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and maintaining an intelligent client relationship with Defra to ensure APHA’s security needs and requirements are met.
- Reporting on security risks and updates to APHA and Defra Boards.
- Ensuring that industry good practice security principles and requirements are embedded across all aspects of security within APHA.
- Driving strong security culture across APHA, ensuring effective security practices are implemented and maintained.
- Understanding business and information risk context in relation to physical, personnel and cyber security threats and impacts; (whilst not being responsible for Cyber Security).
- Being a role model for the security community and modelling Civil Service values to foster and develop the team’s professional capability.
- Owning and continuous improvement of the Weybridge Threat Vulnerability Risk Analysis and Operating Requirements in collaboration with other stakeholders.
- Provide operational management, continuous improvement and direction for the APHA Security team (comprising of 2 x G7 and an SEO).
- Provide leadership and guidance to the security team, building capacity and capability and play a valued role in our organisation wide Senior Leadership Team.
- The successful candidate will hold or be able to obtain DV clearance.
