Summary
Job Summary: The role holder has management responsibility for overseeing the running of the orthotic clinical team on-site in Exeter, as well as assessing and treating a complex range of patients, based on current best practice. To manage the orthotic clinical team effectively, ensuring the service is running smoothly and efficiently, meeting all timescales and expectations set. To work closely with the administration teams, technical staff and management in order to achieve an efficient service. Ensuring all clinics are optimised with patients and to deal directly with the patients for any clinical-related queries or complaints. Reports to: Opcare Exeter Centre Manager Location: Exeter Mobility Centre 20 Hennock Road East Exeter EX2 8RU Key Responsibilities & Tasks: Line manage all orthotic clinical staff, including conducting appraisals, organising training and development, and implementing performance management processes. Lead by example to ensure the clinical team is engaged, motivated, and delivering against patient and business objectives. Work collaboratively with workshop staff, admin teams, the Orthotic Manager, and senior management to deliver a smooth, efficient service. Support senior management in driving continuous improvement for the centre and its patients. Ensure referral pathways progress effectively to achieve Referral to Treatment (RTT) targets and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Oversee clinical workload allocation to ensure resources are fully utilised to meet patient, customer, and organisational requirements. Review HCPC registration status and ensure CPD portfolios are accurately maintained for all clinical staff. Assist with resolving patient complaints, queries, and concerns promptly and professionally. Report regularly on clinical activity and progress against objectives to the Clinical Services Manager, Orthotic Manager, and senior management, highlighting any issues requiring support or intervention. Co-ordinate and undertake clinical audits, research, and development work to meet service and company objectives. Assess, measure, cast, scan, and treat patients in line with clinical requirements, ensuring patient choice is offered where appropriate. Review and develop clinical policies, procedures, and patient pathways, auditing their implementation and effectiveness. Maintain clear and professional communication with central manufacturing facilities to ensure bespoke products are produced accurately and on time. Ensure timely completion and processing of all patient records and work orders, maintaining high standards of documentation within the clinical team. Provide information and escalate concerns to the Clinical Services Manager and Orthotic Manager regarding difficulties with product quality, fit, timescales, or specified requirements. Agree personal and team objectives with the Centre Manager, reporting regularly on progress. Ensure adequate clinical staff cover during holiday and sickness periods. Maintain an excellent appreciation of customer needs, treating all patients with dignity and keeping them informed about their treatment. Practice within the HCPC code of ethics and professional guidelines at all times. Ensure confidentiality of internal communications as appropriate. Assist in maintaining compliance with all statutory standards, internal Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) requirements, and DQA audits. Skills & Personal Attributes: Proven practical experience working successfully at a senior level as an orthotist. Committed to the highest standards of patient care and practice in line with the role holders state registration e.g. HCPC. Proven experience of motivating and working within high performing teams. Excellent communication skills and ability to build and maintain excellent working relationships internally and externally. Ambition and drive to help improve the services and processes. Sound judgement and the ability to make sound appropriate decisions quickly and effectively in complex situations. Self-motivated and uses initiative, seeking advice when required. Able to prioritise, plan and organise efficiently, and work with multiple conflicting priorities. Positive and proactive can-do attitude. Excellent attention to detail. Sound numeracy and literacy skills. Good working knowledge of IT systems e.g. word/excel/outlook. Remains calm under pressure. Full DBS clearance. Full UK driving license preferred.
