Summary
Join us as the Head of Public Policy Unit
We’ll look to you to generate innovative, long-term policy ideas that complements and enhances the strategic direction of our Group and our customers, providing ready policy solutions
You’ll also use these solutions in engaging the government and political parties which will enhance the reputation of the bank as a trusted adviser and thought leader
This is a chance to take on a leading role in the Public Policy team and work collaboratively across Corporate Affairs (CA)
What you'll do
We’ll look to you to bring together and lead a diverse range of people across the franchises and functions to deliver long-term, high quality policy ideas which will enhance the reputation of our Group and improve the commercial context within which the bank and our customers operate. You’ll work with teams across CA to provide the policy content for campaign priorities and help in the effective dissemination of that content.
Working with CEO, Chair and other seniors on policy strategy, ideas and requests, you’ll also manage external relationships with customers, political influencers and policy stakeholders to ensure significant reach and contacts to help develop and disseminate long-term content.
In addition, you’ll:
Retain and develop policy talent across our Group so that over time there is a large policy-aware cohort across the Group to help develop high quality content and thought leadership
Build political credibility and connections for senior leaders and our Group through high quality thought leadership and policy generation
Build and manage internal relationships across our Group to ensure the smooth running of the Policy Unit (PU) via secondments and manage the PU permanent roles
Work across CA and Marketing on dissemination of long-term, strategic policy content
Work closely with seniors across the franchises and functions on long-term policy ideas and strategic positions
Manage PU budgets to ensure value for money on all policy projects and team staffing levels
The skills you'll need
We’re looking for someone with a very strong understanding of policy and policy development along with having strong connections both at political stakeholders and thought leadership levels. You’ll bring a proven ability to interact with senior leadership including the CEO and Chair.
You’ll also bring:
A good understanding of the financial services sector and banking
A strong understanding of politics and the economic context within which our Group operates
Good management skills including budgets, risks and people
The ability to collaborate on campaigns and work with other communications disciplines
A proven ability to interact with customers
