Job Purpose: To support the Nursery Manager in delivering high-quality early years education and care. In the absence of the Nursery Manager, the Deputy Manager will assume full responsibility for the nursery, ensuring compliance with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and other statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

Management responsibility for the nursery in the absence of the Nursery Manager
To lead and support a team of practitioners, ensuring high standards of care and education.
To supervise and appraise nursery staff as directed by the Nursery Manager.
Take on designated officer roles and strategic responsibilities as required.
To be responsible for any tasks delegated by the Nursery Manager.

Compliance and Quality Assurance:

Ensure the nursery meets all EYFS and Ofsted requirements.
Maintain a safe environment for children, staff and visitors that complies with both EYFS and health and safety regulations.
Understand, review and work to nursery policies and procedures, including dealing with child protection issues.
Respond appropriately to incidents, accidents, complaints and emergencies.

Curriculum and Planning:

To deliver and oversee an appropriate play based Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum that enables children to make individual progress.
To provide a safe, caring, stimulating educational environment, both indoors and outdoors.
To liaise with the SENDCO as appropriate and support staff in the early identification and implementation of support plans for children with additional needs.
Be responsible for implementing and monitoring systems of observation to enable children’s progress and achievements to be regularly and effectively assessed and recorded.
Work with other professionals to benefit children and families.

Parental Engagement:

Develop strong partnerships with parents/carers, encouraging their involvement in their child’s development.
Communicate effectively with parents/carers about the nursery’s curriculum and their child’s progress.

Financial and Administrative Duties:

Assist with the nursery’s financial management, including budgeting and resource allocation.
Support human resources functions, such as recruitment, staff development, and performance management.
Maintain accurate records and reports as required.

Personnel Specification

Education and Training

Minimum of a relevant and recognised Level 3 qualification (Essential)

Leadership and Management qualification (Desirable)

Paediatric First Aid certificate (Desirable)

Experience

At least two years post qualifying experience in an early years setting.

Proven experience in implementing high-quality learning opportunities

Experience of working in partnership with parents.

Skills and Attributes

Excellent knowledge of the EYFS and current statutory guidance.

Strong leadership and team management skills.

Effective communication skills with children, parents, and staff.

Good organisational and administrative skills.

Basic understanding of financial and human resources management.

Job Types: Full-time / Part-time, Permanent
