The role:
This role plays a critical part in shaping and delivering effective IT services within a complex technical environment. Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, the position involves supporting the design and specification of end-to-end IT solutions aligned with user needs and business objectives. It requires a hands-on approach to project management, business analysis, and technical review, ensuring that services are secure, efficient, and fit for purpose.
Key accountabilities:
Working with other members of the Shared Technology Services teams, assist with the specification and design of end-to-end IT services, covering, for example: user need, business objectives, scope, constraints (such as performance, resources etc.), evaluation and prioritisation of user stories and identification and mitigation of technical risks.
Support with investigative work to determine service opportunities, and specify effective business solutions, including improvements in information systems, data management, practices, organisation and equipment.
Contribute to the detailed specification and modelling of recommended solutions using resources, standards, methods and tools as required.
Apply and maintain specific procedures and security controls as required by organisational policy and local risk assessments to maintain confidentiality, integrity and availability of business information systems and infrastructure components.
Take full responsibility for the definition, documentation and safe execution of small scale projects, or subprojects, actively participating in all phases of the project.
Effectively estimate costs, timescales and resource requirements for the successful delivery of the project(s) to agreed terms of reference, and take action where these deviate from agreed tolerances.
Prepare and maintain realistic project schedules (showing tasks and dependencies) and quality plans and track all activities against them, providing regular and accurate reports to senior management, and client / user management as appropriate.
What the client is looking for:
Experience of working in a technically complex IT environment.
Experience in managing projects in a large organisation
Experience in gathering and documenting business requirements
Understanding of the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework.
Knowledge of project management principles and techniques.
Experience with structured review methods for technical diagrams, test plans, business cases, and other key deliverables.
Familiarity with business analysis techniques.
Skilled in investigating, analysing, modelling, and documenting business areas or systems, such as process modelling and business environment analysis.
Proficient in using tools to record and represent organisational information, such as class diagrams and relational data models.
Experienced in planning and monitoring project progress using techniques like work breakdown structures, baselining, critical path analysis, earned value, resource analysis, conflict resolution, planning tools, quality management, and risk and issue management.
