We are looking for a motivated and talented Research Fellow to join the School of Engineering at the University of Warwick, contributing to cutting-edge research in plasma science and sustainable technologies.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the final phase of the prestigious ERC-funded SCOPE project (Surface-COnfined fast-modulated Plasma for process and Energy intensification in small molecules conversion – https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/810182).

Our research focuses on the use of non-thermal plasma (NTP) to drive challenging chemical reactions involving small, non-reactive molecules (such as N₂, CO₂, and CH₄), and for material processing including the upgrading of plastics and biochar. We have developed a series of innovative plasma reactors designed to enhance energy efficiency and product yield.

As a Research Fellow, you will:

Conduct experimental work using various NTP reactor systems
Analyse experimental data and contribute to high-impact publications
Support the day-to-day management and administration of the project
Produce regular reports and help ensure project goals and deadlines are met
This role is ideal for someone passionate about sustainable technologies, plasma science, and collaborative research.

You will hold a good honours degree (minimum 2:1) or a Master’s in a relevant subject, and will have a PhD (or be near completion) in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.

With a developing research profile, you’ll have a track record of quality research outputs and the ability to contribute to high-impact publications.

You’ll bring hands-on experience in designing laboratory test rigs and working with instrumentation for measuring process parameters such as velocity and concentration.

Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, and CFD modelling software is essential, along with strong analytical and IT skills, including the use of Microsoft Office and tools for technical writing and presentations.

Excellent time management, organisational, and interpersonal skills are a must, as is the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative research team. Ideally, you will also have some experience or potential in contributing to research funding proposals and engaging in outreach or departmental activities.
