Summary
You will have the complex responsibility of ensuring continuity of serology business as usual, alongside maintaining the facilities in readiness for working at SAPO CL4 in response to an animal disease outbreak.
Your responsibilities may include, but will not be limited to:
- Act as the main contact for building 6 SAPO4 facilities and be responsible for day to day management when the facility is working at SAPO 4.
- Be proactive in liaising and collaborating with key stakeholders, including SLSD senior management, the APHA Safety, Health, and Wellbeing Dept. (SHaW), Facilities Management, and external contractors.
- Ensure the facilities are functional and compliant with APHA Safety Policies, Standards and Guidance to permit safe and effective delivery of emergency response testing.
- Ensure the facilities are compliant with the SAPO legislation.
- Provide local decision-making regarding safety and compliance and advise and direct SLSD staff and senior managers accordingly.
- Oversee and ensure the equipment within the buildings is functional and well maintained, according to schedule.
- Work with Facilities Management, external contractors and the deputy building officer to ensure repairs, maintenance and calibrations are undertaken to support compliance.
- Organise and manage, 6 monthly containment exercises, with the aim of sustaining SAPO 4 competence for supervisors and independent workers.
- Attend all Planned Preventative Maintenance meetings, including 90 day, 7 day, day 1, wash up and assurance meetings. Ensure minimal disruption to science.
- Ensure all visitors attend the SAPO CL4 induction presentation for SSB, sign ER.007 visitor declaration and are supervised at all times by a competent supervisor.
- Represent the B6 SAPO 4 high containment facility and serology in the Red Amber Green twice monthly meetings to report on status and discuss emergency response preparedness.
- Represent the B6 SAPO 4 labs at the decontamination quarterly meetings with Defra. Report issues and discuss planned work regarding the ETP and autoclaves.
- Organise and certify documents for validation of autoclaves, building fumigation, MSC fumigation and disinfectants.
- Organise and record all appropriate contingency drills ensuring the format is engaging to staff at all levels.
- Prepare for and participate in internal audits and HSE audits. This may include presentations and interviews with HSE.
- Perform monthly building checks in accordance with the standards and complete the monthly SPI data.
- The BO will ensure ad hoc monitoring of individuals working in the facility is carried out and recorded. Any compliance concerns must be reported to the line manager.
